In our first blog post we introduced you to Enable as a business; where we started, how we got to where we are… but now we feel that it’s time for you to meet the team personally. We are a very personal charity and we like people to feel that they can come to us for help, but you might need to know who to contact who can best help you.
Ian Newton –
Our CEO and the head of the charity. Ian came to us from one of our members, Scintilla, in April 2018. During lockdown Ian has continued to work tirelessly for Enable to ensure that our charity had enough work to continue supporting people throughout the East Midlands. He is passionate about getting people in the best mental health possible and to develop themselves personally and professionally. Ian enjoys going out for a run in the mornings and loves listening to his son play his guitar.
Claire Bartle –
Claire is one of our contract managers and a member of the Senior Management Team. She has been with Enable almost since the beginning; Claire took a few years out of the business but came back to us around three years ago. Claire has done many of the roles within Enable and is very experienced with the work we do. Our Adult Education Budget contracts and our Advanced Learner Loans are managed by Claire. She also is quite the animal lover and has over 100 animals at home (!) including dogs, birds, tortoises, and lizards…
Nick Taylor –
Nick is our third member of our Senior Management Team at Enable. Nick manages the contracts for our Apprenticeships, Traineeships and our ESOL (English Speaking as Other Language) courses. He has been with Enable since the very beginning so Nick has seen us grow and add to our course lists throughout the years! In his spare time Nick will probably be found down his local pub enjoying a few drinks and maybe a quiz or two with his friends!
Sam Cook –
Sam is our bubbly Business Development Manager. You are most likely to see Sam out and about at various networking events in and around the East Midlands, she knows all about us and how we work. If you want to know what course would best suit your workforce, Sam is the lady to speak to! And her great big infectious smile is easily distinguishable. Outside of networking events and the office, Sam spends a lot of time with her family and cannot wait for her son’s wedding later this year.
Shason Gurung –
Shason is our technical wiz! He is our Data and Compliance Officer, with a master’s degree in computer science he is the go to for many technical issues. Shason has been with Enable for almost three years and is training to become a qualified tutor with us. In his spare time Shason loves playing computer games until the small hours of the morning and is eagerly awaiting the end of the pandemic so that preparations for his wife to move to the UK from Nepal can continue.
Flick Hamnett-Day –
Flick came to Enable to be our Administration Lead, but since being with us her role has evolved and she is now also our Marketing Specialist. We are passionate about people developing their skills and we are proud to support Flick in her new career direction (one that she loves too!). Outside of work, Flick is an avid volunteer and is always telling us about the work she does with Scouting and CAMRA – she never sits still! Next year she will be taking over as the Chief Steward at the Great British Beer Festival in London, a fantastic accomplishment and reflection of all her hard-voluntary work!
Tracey Huddleston –
Tracey is our Apprenticeship Tutor. Recently Tracey has really embraced tutoring online, developing her Google Classroom skills and being contacted by learners outside of “work hours” when they have a query about their course. Both Tracey and our Apprentices have really embraced their new style of learning! Outside of work, Tracey will most likely be found planning her next holiday with her family. Outstandingly Tracey did the Dryanuary in January 2019 and has been sober ever since! Wow!
Paul Fairlie –
Paul joined the Enable team last year to become one of our Tutors. He works predominantly on our ESOL courses teaching Syrian refugees how to read, write and speak English. One of the most extraordinary cases we have are the blind refugees who Paul has helped to understand and read English Braille! Paul has also taught himself some Arabic to further break the language barrier between him and his students – how amazing! Paul is also quite artistic and has some experience with drawing caricatures, he has drawn one of Claire and we won’t be surprised if more of the team appear in caricatures in the future.
This month we have also have a new colleague, Mel, joining us. We will introduce you to her shortly! We are going to let her get her feet under the table first!
We hope you have enjoyed meeting our team and getting to know them a little bit better. We really are a friendly bunch who work well together (whether it is in the office of working from home)! Thank you for taking the time to meet us and we look forward to meeting you in person soon.
Stay tuned for our next blog post next month! Follow us on social media to keep up to date with everything Enable!
